A bus tour with a professional tour guide on the history of social housing in the Netherlands. The bus tour starts at Museum het Schip, There you will be introduced to the terrible housing condition at the end of the 19th century with the answer to the problem that is the monumental Amsterdam School building Het Schip. On the tour you will pass the many success stories of social housing. From the early social housing, just after the housing act of 1901, to the modern renewal high rises of Het Nieuwe Bouwen in the 1930s. The bus tour provides an overview of the most important social housing projects from the 20th century and examples of current day urban renewal. A stop is made at the van Eesteren Museum to make a visit to a postwar dwelling. Afterwards the bus will return to Museum het Schip.

Nota Bene. The 10 am bustour on the 19th of June is English only. Starts at Museum Het Schip and will not return to Het Schip, but head straight for the Wester Unie, Conference location. Museum will be opend from 9am so you can visit the museum before the bustour.
